Python 3.15 Features Worth Knowing

··165 words·1 min·

🐍 Python 3.15 brings changes that simplify everyday tasks. UTF-8 becomes the default encoding on every operating system, helping prevent garbled characters when files move between Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Other additions include named sentinel values to distinguish “no argument provided” from a valid None; lazy imports that defer modules until they are used; and unpacking inside comprehensions. A new sampling profiler helps find slow code with little overhead, while clearer error messages offer better suggestions.

Not every feature benefits every program: lazy imports, for example, are more useful for command-line tools than for long-running processes.

💡 Explanation in a nutshell

This release reduces surprises and repetitive work: files use the same encoding across computers, selected dependencies load only when needed, and errors provide more helpful clues.
