Shared Storage in Microsoft 365

··169 words·1 min·

☁️ Microsoft is changing how storage is allocated in some Microsoft 365 plans: instead of giving each person a separate quota, several members will use one shared pool.

Family and Premium plans include 2 TB for up to six people; Pro includes 5 TB. Additional storage purchases are added to the pool, up to 10 TB total. Basic (100 GB) and Personal (1 TB) remain individual plans.

Important: sharing capacity does not mean sharing files. Documents and photos remain private unless each person explicitly shares them. New or upgraded subscriptions use the model starting October 8, 2026; existing customers move to it when they renew on or after May 2, 2027.

💡 Explanation in a nutshell
#

Think of it as a shared pantry for storage: each member can use more space when needed, while files remain in private accounts. The capacity is shared; access to documents is not.
