📊 Key concept in data and AI: Random Variables A random variable 🎲 is simply a value that depends on chance. We don’t know exactly what value it will take, but we do know what values it can take and with what probability.
🔢 Two fundamental types:
- Discrete 👉 countable values: number of visits to a website, defective products, heads or tails 🪙
- 🌡️ Continuous 👉 values within a range: temperature, time until a server fails, customer value
🤔 Why does this matter?
- Because depending on the type of variable, we use different forms of analysis and mathematical models. Choosing the wrong type is like using a hammer to screw 🔨❌
🚀 For those starting out in data, statistics, or AI: understanding this is one of the first bricks to making better decisions based on information.
