Let me share some of the thoughts shared at Digital Twin in Energy Sector 2022.

There are multiple drivers that define how value can be added to the upstream business.

Efficiency
#

Value in E&P business comes from producing and managing more efficiently our hydrocarbon resources.

Better management of subsurface uncertainty and impacts on field recoveries.

  • Anticipated field development decisions.
  • Time to first oil acceleration.
  • Recovery rates increase.

Multiple sources
#

Integrated platform for E&P production system with integration of multiple backends and data sources have an impact as well. Also, having all the disciplines working integrated to achieve the company goals.

All the previous, break silos, not only in data, but also in requirements.

Company processes
#

Company internal processes that are translated and embedded in the Digital Twin solution, also add value. For example: well reviews, choke model, opportunities management, etc.

More importan, having health, safety, and environmental included in the Digital Twin, ensures optimization, improvement, and maximization of those policies.

Simulation
#

Real-Time optimizations are either driven by numerical or data driven models. These models improve asset potential.

Forecast
#

Short-term and mid-term forecast scenarios to maximize the returns for the company, for example, increase the reliability levels of main critical rotating equipment.

At the bottom line, it will reduce lifting costs and production costs.

Value data
#

Need to treat data as an asset for the company. Data in the main backends with sufficient quality and robustness

Sponsorship
#

Last, but most important, clear sponsorship from the business (at an appropriate level of influence) is mandatory for a successful implementation and value creation.

Agile mentality with fast MVP
#

As an important recommendation to ensure a global alignment from the business, digital transformation team, and project team: Demonstrate value fast to the business.

Do not charge the first implementations to the business until a case is demonstrated successful.
